Venues

Wolf Trap is home to three distinct venues: the majestic Filene Center, the intimate The Barns at Wolf Trap, and the enchanting Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods. Together, they embody Wolf Trap’s mission to unite artistry, community, and nature. From the youngest audience members to lifelong arts enthusiasts, Wolf Trap offers experiences that foster connection, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the performing arts.

Collaboration for the Arts

Collaboration is central to Wolf Trap’s mission. Through a unique partnership between the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts and the National Park Service, Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts blends the arts, nature, and community to inspire audiences of all ages.

Wolf Trap Foundation proudly partners with local arts organizations including the National Symphony Orchestra, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, Signature Theatre, and The Washington Ballet, to present exceptional performances that enrich the region’s cultural landscape.

To broaden access and impact, Wolf Trap also collaborates with corporate and community partners such as PNC Bank, Boeing, Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic, WAMU, WETA, and many others whose support helps make performances and programs accessible to all.

History

Founded in 1968, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts was born from philanthropist Catherine Filene Shouse’s visionary gift of land and funds to the federal government in 1966, creating a place where the performing arts and nature could thrive together. Her generous donation led to the creation of what was then called Wolf Trap Farm Park—and is the only national park dedicated to the performing arts.

Since 1971, the iconic Filene Center has welcomed nearly 4,000 performances enjoyed by millions. In 1981, The Barns at Wolf Trap opened its doors, offering over 3,000 intimate concerts in its acoustically pleasing setting. And for our youngest fans, Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods has presented thousands of performances in its magical outdoor amphitheater designed just for kids and families, since 1971.
